Police: 1 dead, 1 injured after wreck involving propane truck in Jasper
DUBOIS CO, Ind. (WFIE) - Dubois County Dispatch confirms that crews responded to an accident involving a propane truck on Friday.
It happened in the area of State Road 162 and Meridian Road in Jasper.
According to a press release, when first responders arrived on scene they found a fully engulfed propane truck and a passenger car. The driver of the propane truck, later identified as 37-year-old Nathan Cooper, was taken to Memorial Hospital for their injuries.
The Jasper Police Chief tells 14 News the driver of the car, later identified as 43-year-old Chasidy Fuhrer, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Dubois County Coroner’s Office.
After conducting an investigation, police say Fuhrer failed to stop at the stop sign on Meridian Road, and then pulled in front of the truck while turning into the intersection of State Road 162, resulting in both vehicles colliding with one another. Police say Cooper was able to get out of his vehicle after the crash, while Fuhrer was entrapped in her car and had to be extricated by the Jasper Fire Department.
The roadway was closed for approximately 4.5 hours while emergency crews cleared the scene. The roadway has since reopened.
