HENDERSON, Ky. (WFIE) - Henderson police say a two-year-old girl was shot early Monday morning.
Authorities tell us it happened around 1:00 a.m. when the two-year-old’s mom was driving near the corner of Adams and Powell Street when they heard gunshots.
Officials say they pulled over when the two-year-old started screaming. Police say the mother then saw a bullet had hit her daughter.
Henderson Police are asking for the public’s help because they don’t have anyone in custody yet.
A neighbor tells 14 News he heard several gunshots and went outside to find police going in and out of a nearby home on Powell street.
Police say they’re investigating the home in connection to this case and say there was an “unusual scene” inside.
Police are now trying to piece together what exactly happened and who’s responsible.
”Anyone who hears about this should be outraged,” said Major Ryan Walenga with Henderson Police. “A 2-year-old was in a car with her mother and got shot while in the car seat. I would ask anyone in the community to reach out with any assistance they can, any information. Our detectives have been working very hard on this and that’s not going to change.”
The girl is currently in a hospital in Indianapolis and is expected to live.
The girl is supposed to be three next month.
