WHITESVILLE, Ky. (WFIE) - Whitesville Elementary shared the moment Becky Barnett got to hug her son again.

It was Senior Airman Bobby Barnett’s first time home in two years.

Up until Wednesday, she had only seen him over video calls.

“That’s the one thing I kept telling him, ‘I just need your hugs,’” she said. “He gives the best hugs.”

She said with him back, it was like nothing changed.

“I never thought I would enjoy the two of them bickering about getting out of bed, but it was nice to hear the two of them fussing about getting up this morning,” she said.

As with anyone in the military, Becky said she knows these are moments that she has to cherish now.

“It’s always hard to let him go,” she said. “Knowing that he’s doing something he enjoys and that he’s healthy and happy there, it makes it all a lot easier to be that far.”

The post says the third graders helped Barnett pull off the big surprise to see his mom again.

He returns to North Dakota, where he has been stationed, at the end of the week.
