HUNTINGBURG, Ind. (WFIE) - Indiana State Police say there was a crash on Highway 231 Friday night.

They say it was around 10 p.m. near the airport, south of Huntingburg.

Troopers say a BMW driven by 19-year-old Samuel Weiler was northbound on US 231 south of 1100 S.

They believe he was speeding, and say as he tried to negotiate a curve, he lost control.

Troopers say his car slid sideways across the southbound lane and into an SUV driven by 73-year-old Robert Hall.

They say the crash caused Weiler’s car to flip into a yard, while the SUV was disabled in the road.

Troopers say a driver in a third vehicle, 21-year-old Ernest Volz, was unable to avoid the collision and hit the front of the SUV.

Volz and a passenger were not hurt. Hall was treated for minor injuries.

A passenger in Weiler’s BMW, 18-year-old Nicholas McKown, of Huntingburg, was killed.

US 231 was shut down for approximately four and a half hours.

The crash is still under investigation, and drug and alcohol tests are pending.
