Mesker Park Zoo gets two new Otters
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Mesker Park Zoo has two new North American River Otters.
They are sisters named Astrid and Juno.
They are both one year old and are from the Pueblo Zoo in Colorado.
The otter exhibit in the enchanted forest has been empty since the last inhabitants, Splish and Splash, passed away.
The otters’ new home has plenty of room for them to play and interact with visitors.
“You get certain animals here, maybe a tortoise, or snake, or fish - that’s exciting to get those, but they’re not full of this robust quirkiness that otters have,” Mesker Park Zoo Marketing Director Danny Schembre said. “So it’s fun to come down here and watch them because they’re just so darn cute.”
Another exhibit, Penguins of Patagonia, is set to open the first couple of weeks in September.
