DAVIESS CO., Ky. (WFIE) - Daviess County has their first state certified search and rescue trailing dog.

Fiscal Court officials say his name is Rocco, and there are fewer than ten like him in Kentucky.

Rocco is part of the Daviess County Search and Rescue Team.

The deputy director says Rocco is owned by one of the volunteer team members.

After hours of training, he was recently evaluated at a course then given the certification.

He says it’s not easy, and only a handful of dogs are able to meet the requirements.

Rocco is unique because usually dogs with this specific certification are hound dogs. Rocco is a German Sheppard.

The team’s volunteers have several other dogs, all with their different specialized certifications.
