EPD: Argument over money leads to shooting on N. Boeke Rd.
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - The Evansville Police Department confirms one man was shot on the 1100 block of North Boeke Road.
EPD officials say authorities responded to a report of a man with a gun on Saturday evening.
Officials say when they arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound to the lower abdomen. They say the man was rushed to the hospital.
After separating those involved, EPD says detectives determined that 30-year-old Kristian Clay was with a group of people who had been making threats to the victim over a money dispute.
EPD tells 14 News that Clay, along with two carloads of people, showed up at the victim’s residence. That’s when police say the victim feared for his life; running inside, grabbing a knife for protection and calling 911.
According to authorities, Clay drew his weapon on the victim and told him to drop the knife. When the victim did, police say Clay started striking the victim, but a man living in an adjoining duplex heard the struggle and tried to stop Clay.
As a result, authorities say the man was shot in the abdomen.
We are told he is expected to survive his injuries, and the intended victim suffered a broken nose.
Despite his claims of self-defense, police say Clay was arrested and charged with battery with a deadly weapon.
