EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Crews were called to a fire in a large garbage container outside of the Goodwill store on First Avenue in Evansville Thursday morning.

Fire officials say someone driving by saw the smoke and called 911.

They say and EPD officer was also passing by around the same time and saw a man walking between the dumpster and the loading dock

Officials say the man was detained and arrested on unrelated charges.

Fire officials say he told them he had climbed into the hopper section and admitted to starting a small fire to warm himself after he woke up.

The fire spread to other items in the dumpster portion.

They say the dumpster had to be pulled away from the compactor to put the fire out.

There was no damage to the building, and no one was hurt.

The man is not facing charges related to the fire. Officials say it was accidental.
