OWENSBORO, Ky. (WFIE) - Castlen Steel and Archer-Daniels-Midland Company are now partners.
The companies tell 14 News it’s going to be a boost for Owensboro’s local economy and farming industry.
“We got a fortune 54 company now that is coming to Owensboro, Kentucky. That’s exciting. You know, it’s exciting to get to see the jobs built here in Owensboro, Kentucky, and the economic impact it’s going to be,” said Castlen.
Officials say ADM is providing barge fleeting and cleaning services to Castlen Steel. ADM says, “they’re proud to support new jobs in the area.”
“ADM is a customer of our terminal. We’re building a fertilizer building for them to store their products so they can retail directly through farmers or retail stores,” stated Castlen.
This makes it easier for local farmers to get their fertilizer. Construction for the fertilizer facility will be done this fall.
Castlen Steel says they’re excited to see what other opportunities this partnership will bring.

ARTCO, a wholly-owned subsidiary of ADM, is partnering with Castlen in Owensboro for barge fleeting and cleaning, to serve the Owensboro, KY, and Rockport, IN areas.
Also, ADM will soon supply fertilizer to retail and farmer customers in the Owensboro area. We will have blending capabilities, product-coding capabilities, and will receive inbound by barge, outbound by truck and rail.
Castlen Steel is an industry-known name and has provided services to ADM in the past. Castlen will operate the fertilizer facility, with ARTCO operating our barge fleeting and cleaning services.
Opening in January of 2021, the barge side of the business is up and running. Work has begun on the fertilizer facility, and is expected to be operational in the fourth quarter.
We’re proud to support new jobs in the area. Between the two facilities, ADM will employ about two dozen colleagues.
