GIBSON CO., Ind. (WFIE) - Gibson, Perry and Posey Counties all got $1 million in matching funds from Indiana’s Community Crossings initiative.
Several other southern Indiana counties got smaller awards, including Vanderburgh and Warrick Counties.
In Spencer County, the town of Dale received more than $450,000 to help repair over two miles of roads.
Town leaders say they will match 25% of the grant, and plan to use those funds to repave eight different roads, including Vine Street and Brown Street.
“When you only receive about $50,000 a year to do your roads and streets, you can understand the great need for this to happen,” Dale Clerk Treasurer Cindy Morrison said. “For the town of Dale to be able to do over $500,000 worth of work with this grant, we’re very, very appreciative.”
In total, Governor Eric Holcomb and the Indiana Department of Transportation awarded $100 million to 218 cities and counties for road and bridge projects.
