KENTUCKY (WFIE) - During the state’s coronavirus update, Gov. Andy Beshear announced 628 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 and eight additional deaths on Thursday afternoon.
Kentucky is reporting that 439,551 residents have tested positive since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. The positivity rate currently stands at 3.36% statewide.
As of Thursday, 6,381 people have died across the commonwealth due to complications with COVID-19.
The governor says at least 1,696,530 state residents have been fully vaccinated.
“We need you to get vaccinated,” Gov. Beshear said. “The good news is there are half a million first doses ready to go into people’s arms. At many of these vaccination sites, you can sign up right now for tomorrow at about any time, or any day that’s most convenient for you. Make the decision tonight.”
Dr. Steven Stack, commissioner of the Kentucky Department for Public Health, said the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices meets Friday for follow-up discussion on its recommended temporary pause of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, following reports of blood clots.
Dr. Stack says these cases are exceedingly rare.
“The risk of severe harm and death from COVID-19 vastly exceeds any rare risk from the Johnson & Johnson vaccination, and most experts anticipate the pause on this vaccine will be lifted soon, possibly as soon as tomorrow,” Dr. Stack said.

Officials with the Green River District Health Department say the cases that Henderson County is seeing is a mix of community cases, as well as cases at the Henderson County Detention Center.
Since April 8, Green River health officials say the detention center has reported 41 cases, including 31 that were identified at the jail last week.
Henderson County Jailer Amy Brady told 14 News by phone on Thursday their case numbers don’t go into the county’s case count, but rather the state’s prison count.
We have reached out to the state officials to clarify.
Brady said they did another round of inmate tests Thursday. She said those results are not back yet.
The Muhlenberg County Health Department reported three new COVID-19 cases on Thursday.
This brings the countywide number to 2,875 total cases. Out of these reported cases, 2,796 residents have fully recovered.
Muhlenberg County now has 20 active cases.
