HENDERSON, Ky. (WFIE) - The city of Henderson held a public meeting to discuss its new outdoor sports complex project.
The 65-acre sports complex site is located on Airline Road near Bent Creek Subdivision.
At the Board of Commissioners meeting, city officials requested permission to apply for a 2021 Land and Conservation Fund grant.
The $250,000 grant would go toward construction costs during phase 3 of the project.
That phase includes the construction of new ball fields, lights, and concession areas.
“Any time that you can supplement what you’re going to be paying for a facility that requires this amount of money to construct from scratch - any time you can find a little bit of help from grant programs, it is a good thing,” said Donna Stinnett.
Stinnett says the project is currently in the planning and design phase.
The city is starting some of the drainage and site preparations on the property.
No word yet on when construction will begin.
