Officials: Explosion started deadly house fire in Henderson Co.

HENDERSON, Ky. (WFIE) - Henderson County Dispatch confirms with 14 News that crews responded to a house fire in the 8200 block of Pritchett-Crooks Road on Saturday.

The call originally came in approximately at 10:52 a.m.

According to fire officials, the detached garage and grass were also on fire.

On Monday, fire officials told 14 News the cause of the fire was from an explosion but what caused the explosion is still under investigation.

Officials say the Corydon Fire Department, Waverly Fire Department, Niagara Fire Department and Kentucky State Fire Marshals were called to the scene.

Dispatch told 14 News that crews shut the road down while working to extinguish the fire and getting the smoke to settle.

Henderson County Coroner Bruce Farmer confirms that 67-year-old Susan Givens died as a result of the fire. He says that Givens lived alone in the home.

”Right now, the fire is under investigation - it’ll be under investigation by the state fire marshall’s office,” Corydon Volunteer Fire Chief Bryan Coghill said. “They’re going to be coming down on Monday and meeting with us to go over some things. Right now, there is an investigator there with the gas department, because previously in the week there was a gas leak at that residence. But at this point, everything is under investigation.”

Kenergy Corporation says Givens was a Kenergy board member. She represented District 4 and served since her appointment in December 2015.

Farmer says an autopsy was scheduled for Sunday morning.
