Coroner releases cause of death for man pulled from pond

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - A man’s body has been pulled from a pond on Evansville’s west side.

It happened off Upper Mount Vernon Avenue at the Brickyard Apartments.

Police said Ronald Sandefur made the call to report the body.

He said that his dog had caught the scent of the body and had led him down to the shoreline.

It’s not clear how long the body had been there.

The coroner says the man is 50-year-old Brian K. Ricketts of Evansville.

The Indiana State Police Missing Persons Bulletin stated that Ricketts had been missing since January 9.

After an autopsy was performed, the coroner tells us Ricketts died of drowning, but says the manner of death is still under investigation.
