USI Men’s Basketball Shuffles Schedule; Adds game to Road Trip

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - University of Southern Indiana Men’s Basketball continues on the road for two more games next week in a re-shuffling of games around the Great Lakes Valley Conference. USI (3-2) moves up its game with Southwest Baptist University to January 12 at 3 p.m. and will finally conclude its road-swing with a rescheduled game with the University of Indianapolis Thursday at 6:30 p.m. (CST). 

The Screaming Eagles are 1-1 during the trip with two games postponed due to COVID-19.

USI returns to the friendly surroundings of Screaming Eagles Arena January 16 when the Eagles host the University of Indianapolis for a 3:15 p.m. contest. 

USI Men’s Basketball vs. SBU and U-Indy Quick Notes:

USI postponement, rescheduled games. The Screaming Eagles have rescheduled their games with Lewis University for January 26 and the University of Illinois Springfield for February 5. The new date for USI at the University of Indianapolis is still to be determined. 

Eagles on the road trip. USI is 1-1 on the current four-game road swing with one game postponed (U-Indy) and one left to play (McKendree University) Saturday. Senior guard Mateo Rivera leads the Eagles on the trip with 18.5 points per game, while senior forward Emmanuel Little follows with 17.5 points and a team-best 9.5 rebounds per contest. Senior forward Josh Price completes the list of double-digit scorers on the trip with 14.0 points per outing. 

USI bounces back against Quincy. USI got back on track with a comeback, 83-77 victory over Quincy University Tuesday night. Senior forward Emmanuel Little led the way with a season-high 25 points and 14 rebounds, while senior guard Mateo Rivera  added a career-high 20 points. 

Eagles reach season and career-highs vs. Quincy. Five Eagles reached career and season-highs versus Quincy Tuesday night. Senior guard Mateo Rivera posted a career-high 20 points and dished out a season-best four assists; senior forward Emmanuel Little recorded a season-high 25 points and 14 rebounds, while tying a career-best with three steals; and senior guard/forward Clayton Hughes and junior guard Jelani Simmons grabbed a season-high four and seven rebounds, respectively. 

2020-21 Eagle leaders. Senior forwards Emmanuel Little and Josh Price lead USI through five games with 17.6 and 16.0 points per game, respectively. Price also leads the squad with 10.6 rebounds per contest. Senior guard Mateo Rivera and junior guard Jelani Simmons round out USI’s double-digit scorers with 14.7 and 12.8 points per contest, respectively. 

Little climbing in the record books. Senior forward Emmanuel Little moved into USI’s top 10 in scoring all-time at USI with 1,257 career points, five points away from surpassing Diond’re Givens (1,262 career points) for ninth. Little also is fifth all-time with 757 career rebounds, 25 behind fourth place Billy Harris (782).  

USI vs. SBU. USI trails Southwest Baptist University in the series, 1-2, and 0-1 in in league play. USI lost last year at Screaming Eagles Arena, 71-69.     

SBU in 2020-21. Southwest Baptist is a 6-1 in 2020-21 after winning, 74-62, over William Jewell College Saturday at home.

USI vs. U-Indy. USI holds a 58-24 series lead over the University of Indianapolis, 54-23 in league play. The first meeting of the season in December was postponed. U-Indy took both meetings last year, winning in Indianapolis, 86-74, and at Screaming Eagles Arena, 88-76, snapping a four-game winning streak in the series by USI.

U-Indy in 2020-21. The Greyhounds are 0-7 after falling to U-Indy, 77-56, on the road Saturday at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
