Owensboro Pastor among protestors at Capitol Hill
OWENSBORO, Ky. (WFIE) - An Owensboro Pastor was at Capitol Hill Wednesday when the chaos unfolded.
Pastor Brian Gibson is the lead pastor at HIS Church on Frederica St.
He tells us his mission was to be there to peacefully protest the election of Joe Biden, and he was not among the people who stormed the Capitol.
Gibson says he doesn’t agree with those who did, and he doesn’t think there was enough security.
At another rally in Arizona, Gibson grabbed a selfie with a guy, who he says, just had on a cool outfit.
That guy is the “viking” who was seen in several images on national television, and even made into the Senate chambers.
Several national reports say he’s 32-year-old Jake Angeli, a familiar face at pro-Trump rallies and a QAnon conspiracy theorist sometimes referred to as the “Q Shaman.”
Gibson says he’s taken thousands of photos with people, and he had no idea the man would end up taking the actions he did at the Capital.
“People are posting me with him and trying to connect us. I can’t be responsible for the thousands of pictures or the people’s actions that I’ve taken at rallies across America,” said Gibson.
Pastor Gibson reposted the photo and shared his explanation after we spoke to him Thursday.
He said he doesn’t want the negative reaction to the photo to discredit the work he’s done for the First Amendment.
Gibson also shared videos of himself speaking to crowds during his time in Washington, D.C.
