EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Construction of the new penguin exhibit at Mesker Park Zoo is coming along.

Zoo representatives say progress is right on schedule with the Penguins at Patagonia exhibit.

Crews are finishing up foundational work on the building, and are now framing up the major parts of the exhibit.

Visitors will be able to get a close up look at the dozen or more penguins through an underwater viewing window, and can interact with the penguins from the top level too.

Zoo officials say they’re excited to see a plan that has been many years in the making finally coming together.

“It’s a combination of excitement to show it to the public, and see that new energy that it’s going to bring,” Danny Schemere, marketing director at Mesker Park Zoo said. “As well as a collective of relief because this has been kind of an overbearing thing for so long. So we’re looking forward to having that big wow factor like we did 10 years ago when Amazonia opened.”

The exhibit is scheduled to open this summer.
