New mural in Owensboro vandalized with racist words and symbols

OWENSBORO, Ky. (WFIE) - A new mural that was just dedicated last week has been vandalized.

Members of the Northwest Neighborhood Alliance in Owensboro sent us photos of the damage, which include swastikas and racial slurs.

The mural is on the wall right behind Kendall-Perkins Park.

The mural was meant to tell the story of African history from the past to the present. The first piece depicts ancient Africa.

Work was still underway, with a goal of 27 pieces from artists all over the community.

Owensboro Police Detectives are investigating and ask anyone with additional information to call OPD at 270-687-8888, or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 270687-8484.
