Loud ‘boom’ noise reported across Tri-State, officials cite as likely sonic boom

HENDERSON, Ky. (WFIE) - Several Tri-State viewers called in about hearing a loud “boom” noise on Friday afternoon.

The noise erupted around 2 p.m.

Dispatchers in Henderson tell 14 News they have had no reports of explosions or damage.

Henderson’s Emergency Management Agency posted on its Facebook page that officials checked with the state emergency operations center in Frankfort and the United States Geological Survey. They say there have been no reports of earthquakes in the area.

Officials say it was likely caused by a sonic boom from an an aircraft flying over, exceeding the speed of sound.
