Name released of driver killed in crash at Garvin and Chandler in Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Emergency crews were called to crash at Garvin and Chandler Wednesday evening.

Police say that call came in around 4:30 p.m.

Authorities say when the Evansville Fire Department arrived on scene, it was determined that the driver was dead.

The Vanderburgh County Coroner has identified the driver as 76-year-old Richard Atkins of Evansville.

At this time, police say it appears that Atkins was driving north on Garvin, approaching Chandler when he drifted to the left and struck the bed of a parked tow truck.

They say the bed of the tow truck pierced the Atkins’ cab.
