EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Officials with the Evansville Sports Corporation gave out more information about the United Fidelity Bank River City Basketball Showcase on Wednesday.
The high school basketball tournament was previously set for tip-off at the University of Southern Indiana, but due to COVID-19 precautions, the event was moved to the Ford Center in downtown Evansville.
Officials say they are taking every precaution to ensure the tournament is a safe event. With 13 games scheduled to take place across two days in one arena, this may seem like a lot for event staff to handle in the midst of a pandemic.
However, Ford Center executive director Scott Schoenike says his team has a plan in place.
“There’s 500 fans allowed per game, and then every game will be seated on one-half of the building, as we clean the other half of the building, so it’ll be unique,” Schoenike said. “You’ll see people across the way cleaning the seats, and then as that group leaves and that game starts, you’ll see people on the other side of the building cleaning the other half.
The tournament is set to begin on Friday.
For those who plan on attending, please enter the arena no more than 30 minutes before game time.
