Bedford Collab helping revitalize Tepe Park neighborhood in Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Several community organizations are partnering together to help fund a new project in the Tepe Park neighborhood.

Habitat for Humanity announced a partnership with the Bedford Collab and Tepe Park’s neighborhood revitalization initiative.

Habitat will use an $85,000 grant from Republic Services to help Bedford Collab restore and repair the former Bedford Tavern. Those funds are being matched by Vectren.

Bedford Collab is headed by people who grew up in the neighborhood, and project leaders say they are excited to help revitalize the area.

“To be a part of a team that’s allowing me to put something inside of it with a great idea - I mean, the universe is just working - I love it,” DeAndre Wilson with Bedford Collab said. “I have a great responsibility ahead of me. So does Jeff (Gott). So does Merrick (Korach). We’re putting together a board that will help us, so everyone will have hands on this.”

The facility will be transformed into commercial kitchen space for small food businesses.

Project leaders say the new space should be open by next year.
