The cemetery is actually an official regional site for Veteran’s Day this year, and this marks the eighth year for this honor. The service remembered and honored all veterans for their service to our country.
Mayor Lloyd Winnecke was on hand to take part in the placing of the wreath, and members of the veterans' memorial club played taps and were ready with a 21-gun salute.
“It honors me to be a former member of the military and to be a veteran because the people that you know when you’re in the military are a fine bunch of people,” shared Steve Kissinger. “It was the Cuban missile crisis that caused me to want to serve in the Air Force. I served throughout Vietnam and of course, SAC, was the major nuclear deterrent force in the Cold War against the Soviet Union. So I could guess you could call me a Cold War era and Vietnam era veteran.”
Veteran Steve Kissinger was in the Air Force for six years and was honored as “Veteran of the Year,” awarded by the Veteran’s Council of Indiana.
