INDIANA (WFIE) - One of the bigger races on the ballot for Indiana this Election Day is for attorney general.
Former Indiana Congressman Todd Rokita wins the race for Indiana Attorney General.
He is the Republican candidate who ran against Democrat, and former Evansville Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel.
Weinzapfel officially conceded in the race late Tuesday night, sending out a statement to congratulate Rokita on his victory.
Rokita’s campaign announced Tuesday he had tested positive for COVID-19 after developing “some symptoms” but was doing well.
Rokita got a big endorsement from Indiana’s Fraternal Order of Police.
As for Weinzapfel, he’s been endorsed by many city and county leaders in our area, including Vanderburgh County Sheriff Dave Wedding.
Both candidates said their message to voters about law enforcement is very clear.
“It’s critical that we stand behind our law enforcement," Rokita said. "It’s critical that we defend, defend - not defund - our police.”
“I think the idea, the idea of defunding the police is complete nonsense," Jonathan Weinzapfel said. "In fact, I would suggest we actually need to increase funding for law enforcement.”
