ILLINOIS (WFIE) - During Governor JB Pritzker’s weekly coronavirus update, Dr. Ngozi Ezike announced 4,342 new COVID-19 cases along with 69 additional deaths.

The state of Illinois has now had a total of 355,217 confirmed cases and 9,345 deaths.

Gov. Pritzker emphasized the status of a COVID-19 vaccine

“To be clear, there is no approved vaccine yet, but today is the day that my administration is updating healthcare providers and local health departments about Illinois’s vaccine framework," Gov. Pritzker said.

The Governor said the challenges of a concrete vaccine distribution plan is difficult to provide.

“Let me be clear - Illinois will not distribute a vaccine until we have one that is proven safe and effective," Gov. Pritzker said.

Here are the total number of coronavirus cases and deaths reported in our area:

  • Wayne County - 446 cases, 12 deaths
  • White County - 256 cases, 1 death
  • Wabash County - 223 cases, 5 deaths
  • Edwards County - 101 cases
