KENTUCKY (WFIE) - Gov. Andy Beshear announced 1,275 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 and eight additional deaths on Saturday afternoon.
“This is our highest number of cases ever," Gov. Beshear said. "This is the highest number of cases per week ever and we have one more day that will add to the count, and it shows that we have to do better.”
Kentucky is currently reporting that 72,001 residents have tested positive since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. The positivity rate currently stands at 4.74% statewide.
Out of these reported cases, 12,121 people have recovered from the virus.
The Governor says 166 new cases were from children ages 18 and younger. The youngest child is two months old.
As of Saturday, 1,205 residents have died across the commonwealth due to complications with COVID-19.
“I need your help. We are seeing the coronavirus surging around the country. We are in another escalation here in Kentucky,” the Governor said. “We have got to do what it takes to stop it, and that’s all of us.”

The Green River District reported 140 additional coronavirus cases on Saturday.
Of those new cases, 82 are in Henderson County, 34 in Daviess County, 13 in Union County, four in Ohio County, three in McLean County, two in Webster and Hancock Counties.
Green River health officials say this is the largest number of confirmed cases reported in a single day.
The total number of reported COVID-19 cases in the district is now 3,599 with 2,846 recovered cases.
The Muhlenberg County Health Department reported two new COVID-19 cases on Saturday.
This brings the countywide number to 826 total cases. Out of these reported cases, 766 residents have fully recovered.
The Health Department is offering free COVID-19 testing at the Millport Community Center on Monday, as well as at the Drakesboro Community Center on Wednesday. To schedule an appointment, contact health officials by calling 270-754-3200.
