OWENSBORO, Ky (WFIE) - Electric scooters could be coming to Owensboro. City leaders are debating on this after a proposal was presented to them Tuesday.
Nick Tharp says he and his wife came up with the idea to bring electric scooters to Owensboro after they attended a St. Louis Cardinals game and saw people riding scooters around St. Louis. Tharp says they’d be renting out scooters from a company called Bird.
“The idea of Bird and stuff is to just kind of pick up a scooter, find one on your app, pick it up, ride it to wherever you want and put the kickstand down there and leave it there, that’s kind of the theory behind bird,” said Tharp.
Tharp says whenever someone signs up for Bird, they have to put in their driver’s license. So if anything happened, there is insurance, and that person would be liable.
If the scooters get approved, Tharp says they’d start with having 100 scooters in the city.
As for what’s next, Tharp says that if this does get approved, he could have the scooters here in Owensboro in the next couple of weeks.
