KY Gov. Beshear: Latest COVID-19 numbers suggest highest weekly total of statewide cases

KENTUCKY (WFIE) - Gov. Andy Beshear announced 638 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 and six additional deaths on Saturday afternoon.

Kentucky is currently reporting that 38,930 residents have tested positive since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. The positivity rate currently stands at 5.45%.

The Governor says 17 new cases were from children ages five and younger. During his video update, Beshear put an emphasis on the growing number of kids across the state contracting COVID-19.

“Saturday’s COVID report unfortunately suggests this is going to be the highest week of total cases that we’ve ever had, though our positivity rate is going down a little bit,” Gov. Beshear said. “Folks, this thing is real. We are at war with it and we are going to have to be the strong, resilient and also patient Kentuckians that we are to make sure that we prevent loss of life, that we promote health and that we protect our children, that we should never, ever experiment with.”

Out of the state’s reported cases, 9,091 people have fully recovered from the virus.

As of Saturday, 810 people have died across the commonwealth due to complications with COVID-19.
