Coroner releases identity of woman killed at Green Plains Plant

MT VERNON, Ind. (WFIE) - The Posey County Coroner’s Office releases the name of the woman who died at Green Plains Plant Friday.

The coroner’s office says the woman was 53-year-old Kimberly Stroud. An autopsy was performed Saturday morning.

Preliminary results are pending at this time, and the coroner’s office says the death is accidental.

The Posey County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatality in Mt. Vernon.

They say it happened around 11:15 a.m. Friday at Green Plains, which is an ethanol plant.

Posey County Sheriff Tom Latham says the woman who works there was killed when a train car rolled over on her.

Although it’s still preliminary, he says it appears a train car was being backed up, when the woman fell from it.

A representative from Green Plains sent the following statement.

An unfortunate event occurred the morning of August 7, 2020 at our Mount Vernon, Indiana location resulting in an employee being fatally injured. We are deeply saddened by this event and express our thoughts, prayers and deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the employee. We are cooperating with the authorities on the matter and are conducting a full investigation.
