IL Gov. Pritzker announces 1,759 new positive cases

ILLINOIS (WFIE) - Gov. JB Pritzker gave a COVID-19 update Wednesday.

Illinois officials announced 1,759 new confirmed positive cases, bringing the total in the state to 186,471.

Officials also revealed 30 new coronavirus-deaths. This brings the total number of deaths to 7,573.

“You’re tired of hearing it, I’m tired of talking about it,” Dr. Ngozi Ezike, director of the Illinois Department of Public Health said. “Believe me, I want this over as much as everyone else.”

State leaders reported Wednesday that more than two million COVID-19 tests have been performed since the start of the pandemic. But with statewide cases trending upward, Gov. Pritzker stressed the importance of testing against a relentless virus.

“Unfortunately, this virus rages on,” the Governor said.

As of Friday, 11 counties have now reached IDPH’s “warning level” for virus spread, including White County.

Monday, Governor Pritzker launched a face mask awareness campaign.

Here are the current COVID-19 numbers in our part of Illinois:

  • White Co. - 61 cases
  • Wayne Co. - 54 cases, 1 death
  • Wabash Co. - 33 cases
  • Edwards Co. - 16 cases
