EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Feed Evansville teamed up with a community organizer to hand out meals in Owensboro.
The task force has been handing out food this summer to make sure no one goes hungry during the COVID-19 pandemic. Officials say they wanted to expand to make sure this didn’t happen in western Kentucky.
Volunteers held the food drive at English Park on Friday afternoon, passing out boxes filled with dairy products and non-perishable foods.
Organizers say this event was made possible through Feed Evansville’s partnerships with the Rescue Mission, Gleaner Food Bank, and the USDA Farmers to Families Food Box Program. They told 14 News that everyone at the organization was excited to see several members of the community work together to feed those in need.
“It’s very rewarding, and it’s good that it’s open to everybody,” Karese Johnson, volunteer with Feed Evansville said. “No questions asked, no requirements, no income questions - it’s just for everyone.”
Organizers also told 14 News that if Friday’s event went well, they would plan on organizing similar events on a more regular basis.
