IN surpasses 48k positive COVID-19 cases, 7 local counties have new cases

INDIANA (WFIE) - The Indiana State Department of Health released its latest COVID-19 update on Sunday.

Health officials say there are 596 new positive cases and six new deaths, bringing the total to 48,008 total cases and 2,500 deaths.

Those numbers are up from Saturday’s 47,432 total positive cases and 2,494 total deaths.

The map shows 20 new cases in Vanderburgh County, 13 in Gibson County, seven in Dubois County, two in Warrick County, as well as one each in Pike County, Spencer County and Posey County.

Evansville Deputy Mayor Steve Schaeffer says a new, free COVID-19 testing site will be opening at the CK Newsome Center beginning on Monday.

The testing site will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
