EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Vanderburgh County Dispatch confirmed a crash on U.S. 41 and Washington Avenue that left residents in the area without power on Sunday morning.
The call came in just before 8 a.m.
Evansville Police Department states traffic has been down to one lane on 41 North by the crash, but they are back open.
According to officials, the semi driver’s brakes malfunctioned as he headed north of 41, attempting to stop at the traffic light. Officials state the semi driver decided to veer to the right into a ditch to avoid hitting other vehicles.
EPD states when the truck went off the road, he ended up striking a power pole - cutting power to the Washington Avenue and Highway 41 intersection.
According to police, drivers operated under a 4-way stop for several hours. Eventually, tow trucks lifted the semi out of the ditch, while Vectren replaced the pole.
Officials say the driver was not injured.
