OWENSBORO, Ky. (WFIE) - An investigation is ongoing after a fire broke out at an Owensboro Restaurant on Thursday night.
Fire crews say no one was inside Ernesto’s Mexican Bar & Grill on Emory Drive when black smoke was seen coming from the building around 11 p.m.
The owner says he believes the fire was started by a refrigerator, but the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Officials say they put the fire out quickly and no one was hurt.
The restaurant opened for the first time just one week before having to close due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Owner Ernesto Martinez says receiving the call about Thursday night’s fire was devastating, as he put his entire life savings into the restaurant.
The restaurant is expected to be closed for the next month for repairs.
