OMU ends coal-fired electricity production

OWENSBORO, Ky (WFIE) - After more than a century, Owensboro Municipal Utilities is now longer making electricity with coal.
OMU officials tell us Unit 2 of their Elmer Smith Station went offline at 1:36 a.m. Friday.
Unit 1 was shut down in 2019.
Officials say OMU has entered into a power supply contract with Big Rivers Electric to supply power to their Owensboro customers.
