Former UE center Sascha Hupmann passes away

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - University of Evansville basketball has lost one of its fan favorites.

Former center Sascha Hupmann passed away Sunday morning after a long battle with ataxia.

Hupmann, a native of Munich, Germany, helped lead the Aces to the NCAA Tournament in 1992 and 1993.

He was a fan favorite for his thunderous dunks and big blocks.

He was 49-years-old.

The entire University of Evansville community mourns the loss of Sascha Hupmann.

He embodied what it means to be a Purple Ace in his time as a student-athlete and each day thereafter and will never be forgotten.
