MT. VERNON, Ind. (WFIE) - Authorities are investigating after a body was found in the Ohio River in Posey County on Monday morning.
We’re learning that body pulled from the Ohio River is that of a white female, according to the Posey County Sheriff’s Office.
The whole investigation started unfolding when Posey County Dispatch received a call about a possible body in the Ohio River located by the Mt. Vernon Transfer Terminal.
The Posey County Coroner also told us that the FBI is working to get fingerprints from that female.
Since the body was found just off the Ohio River, Indiana DNR officers are leading the investigation with the help of the coroner.
“Workers with the Mt. Vernon Transfer Terminal with the coal loadout docks were working this morning shortly before 10 a.m. located the victim," said Keith Wildeman, a conservation officer. "American River Transportation Corporation assisted with the use of their watercraft for removal and checked around the area of the drift for any additional evidence.”
According to the coroner, an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday morning at 9 a.m.
The coroner also says that EMA officials are reaching out to people living on the river in multiple counties to see if any missing persons have been reported.
