EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - An Evansville family is safe after a fire broke out at their home Tuesday afternoon.
It happened just after noon in the 500 block of Meyer Avenue.
Firefighters say the back of the house and bedrooms all have extensive damage.
Crews say the family’s cat was saved by the firefighters once they arrived and was treated on scene.
“We had heavy brown smoke pouring out of the residence. Around the eves, the front door. We had one child standing in the front yard. And we were advised that everyone was out of the house, but that there were probably still some pets in the house," said District Chief Tim Krack.
Firefighters say the fire appeared to be accidental. They’re still investigating the cause.
