DANVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Friday was quite a night for Heritage Hills as they won the Semistate Championship over Danville 33-17.
It’s the third time in Heritage Hill’s school history that they are going to state and is the first time since 2004.
“I love the ring of it, it hasn’t really sunk in yet, but I love the ring of it," said Coach Todd Wilkerson. "I’m so happy for this group of kids. I’m happy for a couple coaches I’ve got. Coach Sigler’s been here for 30-something years and this is his last year to coach and Coach Jochim’s been here for 39 years; I’m so happy for those guys because they’ve helped this program remain steady. I was there the other two years as a middle school coach, and it’s a lot more fun this way!”
“It feels great, it’s what you work for at the beginning of the season," said Cole Sigler, Heritage Hills senior. "I’m glad we’re going to Lucas. We knew it wasn’t gonna be easy. Semistate, all teams are gonna be good at this point. Just had to grind it out and make plays, players make plays, and we got it done.”
Heritage Hills will face Indianapolis Chatard for the 3A state title on Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Lucas Oil Stadium.
