EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - The Memorial Tigers won the Boys Soccer State Championship against South Bend St. Joseph with a 2-1 score on Saturday.
This is Memorial’s fifth IHSAA State Championship.
Memorial’s coach Bill Vieth and Isaac Bennett, who scored both the team’s goals were happy to get the job done.
“We’re ecstatic, the kids played so great," said Coach Vieth. "Another tough windy day. We’re getting used to playing in the wind kinda from last week to here. I’m really proud of the win, a great first half, we got a little tired in the second half, and South Bend pushed up and got a goal, but I thought after that we really regrouped and kinda grabbed the game again, so I’m really proud of these guys.”
“You come out and get that first goal, and the other team drops their heads right away, and it totally kills their momentum," said Bennett. "Well at first I didn’t really realize it till we started charging the field and then I was like holy crap we just went all the way, and we completed what we needed to do.”
