EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - The suspect in an Owensboro murder has been arrested after months on the run.
Owensboro police say 18-year-old Damartez Thruston was arrested in Louisville on Sunday. He was wanted for the murder of Kevin White.
Back in March, OPD responded to a shots fired call on West Eighth Street. According to the Daviess County Coroner’s Office, one man was found dead on scene.
A grand jury indicted Thruston in May for the murder of White, and Officer Andrew Boggess says there has been a warrant out for his arrest ever since.
Detectives from the Owensboro Police Department worked to develop leads with Thruston as the suspect.
Officer Boggess tells us that OPD has been working with different agencies over the last few months to locate Thruston. He says they received tips that he had left Owensboro. A tip to Louisville Metro Police led to his arrest.
“He’ll have his first appearance in court, and at that point, it will just be the standard court process," Boggess said. "So, because it was in-state there’s not an extradition or anything like that that we have to worry about.”
Thruston is being transported back to Daviess County to appear in court.
