DALE, Ind. (WFIE) - A semi drove through the front door of a Spencer County Wendy’s.
It happened at the Wendy’s in Dale, right off Interstate 64 near State Road 231, a popular area for truckers.
The sheriff’s office said the driver of the more than 100,000 pound truck and load was hooking up the trailer when the brakes failed. It went all the way through the restaurant and even pushed things out of the other side.
Deputies said five employees were closing down when it happened around 10 p.m. Wednesday, but no one was hurt.
Seufert Construction out of Ferdinand is making minor repairs the day after the accident. They are boarding up the gaping hole left behind by the big rig.
We talked with the regional manager of the restaurant, who tells us more than 20 workers and managers from this location will now be dispersed to work at other nearby Wendy’s locations.
“I have no idea; I would have first thought that maybe the breaks released on it and momentum took it down the hill,” said one truck driver, Marc Allen.
The regional manager says they don’t have a timeline yet as for when the restaurant could reopen. He says he hopes it’ll be sometime in the next two to six months.
