Police investigating after stabbing at Esquire Inn

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - A woman has been arrested in connection with a stabbing in Evansville.

It happened Friday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. at the Esquire Inn on Old Business 41.

Police on the scene wouldn’t give us any information on the victim or if any one has been arrested.

According to an affidavit we received Tuesday, 39-year-old Amy Watkins, of Evansville, was arrested Monday on three counts of battery.

The affidavit says Watkins is accused of stabbing Zachary Kelley during an argument. The argument, according to the affidavit, was over whether or not Kelley had stolen Watkins’ purse several months ago.

Kelley was stabbed several times in the lower torso and stomach.

He was taken to an area hospital for treatment. There’s no word on his current condition, but the affidavit says the injuries would have caused a “significant risk of death” if Kelley had not received emergency medical treatment.

Watkins is currently being held in the Vanderburgh Co. Jail without bond.
