BOONVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - The beach at Scales Lake Park is back open after being closed for several days.
According to the Scales Lake Facebook page, the closure was due to E. coli. They now say the levels are in normal range.
The Health Department told Warrick County Parks after heavy rains it can heighten the risk of E. coli contamination. Officials we spoke with say E. coli is generally harmless, but they closed the beach as they’d rather be safe than sorry.
The Parks and Recreation Department plans to continue testing the waters.
“Routine testing based on the state’s recommendations," says Board President of Warrick County Parks Daniel Roach. "Actually I think it’s a requirement that the state has. If there’s gonna be people swimming in the waters then your gonna have to test the water periodically and that’s weekly.”
Warrick County Parks says they keep a close eye on the levels of each lake in their county. Scales Lake will remain open as long as those levels remain normal.
