Henderson, Ky. (WFIE) - Athletes from across the world are in the Tri-State this weekend.
Powerlifters are competing in the International Single Event World Powerlifting Championship.
It’s at the JFK Community Center in Henderson.
Men and women compete in squat, bench press, and dead lift events.
There are competitors from all over Europe, but you may see some familiar faces from around the Tri-State.
They say they are excited to give American lifters the chance to compete at such a big level.
“We actually have some world class athletes, but a lot of times they really don’t get the opportunity to compete at that level because of the cost and the issues with traveling,” said Mike Stagg of the American Drug-Free Powelifting Federation. “To bring this here really gives them the opportunity to go out for world records, and show what they’re capable of.”
Organizers expect several world records will be broken this weekend.
Lifting will start at 10:00 a.m. Saturday and Sunday morning.
Admission is $5 dollars a day, or $10 dollars for the whole weekend.
