EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) -It was a battle of two Pocket Athletic Conference teams, Tecumseh playing host to Southridge.
The Braves notch a 5-2 come-from-behind win to advance in the Class 2A State Tournament.
The win secured the Braves’ 15th Regional Championship in program history and the team’s fourth straight. An impressive run the past few seasons for Tecumseh, and especially for head coach, Gordon Wood, who started Tuesday off with the birth of a grandchild, and then the 300th victory in his coaching career.
“To get 300 wins, you have to have good teams, it don’t take good coaches, it’s good, hardworking players and I’ve been very blessed with good pitching and just solid kids that wanna work and wanna get better," explains Coach Wood. "That comes from good parents, that teach them how to work, and when they get to me, they know how to work, and it’s not a problem because they work hard. 300 wins is just a bonus, I totally, totally forgot about it until they handed me it and it was just a big surprise.”
Tecumseh (24-3) will play South Vermillion (20-6) on Saturday at Forest Park in the 2A Semi-State Semifinals.
