23lbs of synthetic pot seized after Madisonville drug investigation

HOPKINS CO., Ky. (WFIE) - Two people are facing charges after a drug trafficking investigating in Madisonville.

Authorities say they began investigating anonymous tips over the past two months that 33-year-old James Alexander was selling drugs out of his home in the 500 block of E. Broadway St.

On Thursday, detectives were watching cars come and go from Alexander’s home when they eventually stopped one of the vehicles. We’re told the detectives found synthetic marijuana in the car.

The detectives and other authorities then went to Alexander’s home to talk to him. Authorities say Alexander gave them consent to search his home and he turned over 23 pounds of synthetic marijuana that was packaged for sale.

Alexander’s girlfriend, 24-year-old Brandy Phelps, was also home at the time. Authorities say she told them she knew about what was going on inside the home, but refused to answer any other questions.
