DAVIESS CO., Ky. (WFIE) - Taxes could be going up in Daviess County.
City commissioners heard the first reading for a tax hike at Thursday’s fiscal court meeting.
The increase would be on occupational tax.
Right now, the tax is at 0.35%. The proposed ordinance would bring that tax to 0.70% at the start of 2020 and then to 1% in 2021.
Judge-executive Al Mattingly said occupational taxes haven’t been raised in 12 years. He also said with the pension crisis as well as rising costs, it is necessary, especially because the projection of the next few budgets would eat into the reserve fund.
The next reading on the tax hike will be in two weeks, followed by a vote.
