Man wanted in connection with Evansville shooting now in jail

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - The man wanted in connection with a shooting in Evansville is now in jail.

According to the Vanderburgh Co. Jail website, 20-year-old Tyrell Jeevan Culley was booked around 3 a.m. Thursday.

A warrant had been issued for Culley’s arrest in connection with the shooting of Robert Johnson in the 500 block of S.E. Tenth Street on May 1.

According to the affidavit, Culley was found at a home on N. Elm Avenue along with Jada Turner. Law enforcement says when they arrived at the home, Culley was barricaded inside the back room.

The probably cause affidavit states “two large bags of marijuana,” were found in a backpack at the home. Also found inside the bag with the marijuana was a bag with methamphetamine, the affidavit says.

Both Culley and Turner were taken into custody.

Police say Culley is a convicted serious violent felon and they also wanted to question him about another investigation.

Culley is facing a long-list of charges including battery with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon, meth possession and marijuana possession.
