Owensboro, Ky. (WFIE) - Police are now searching for the suspect after a man was shot at an apartment complex.

According to the Owensboro Police Department, the shooting happened around 12 p.m. in the 600 block of Chuck Gray Court. They say Keir Wade, 24, of Pembroke, was shot at the complex and they think the suspect then ran from the area.

The K-3 campus for Owensboro Catholic Schools were on lockout. School officials tell our reporter, Katie Kapusta, all buses and after school activities will go on as normal.

Daviess County Public Schools also placed Apollo High School, Burns Elementary, Burns Middle School, Heritage Park, Tamarack and Southern Oaks all on lockout after the shooting.

Wade was taken to the hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound to the leg. Police say he was responsive when he was being taken in the ambulance.

Bystanders tell us they heard three gunshots. According to police, one of the apartment windows and a nearby car was also shot.

“I heard three loud pops and I look over and the dogs are going crazy," Joe Legg, a neighbor, said. "And I listened for some more and I didn’t really think much of it, but then the mailman came through and told me there were three shots, and I mean, I’m right across the street.”

OPD believes this is an isolated event, but wanted to be extra cautious with the nearby schools.

“It’s done as a precautionary thing," explains Andrew Boggess, Owensboro Police Department. "Just on the off chance that the suspect could come across one of the schools. We want the children obviously to be safe.”
